Mission Office/Montreal- Week 21
I went to the Biodome this week for district p-day. Seeing animals other than dogs and pigeons again was pretty cool.
Something I did this week was I put a Bible in Chinese on Facebook marketplace for free. Because we are missionaries, we have Bibles and Books of Mormon in different languages we give out for free. So anyway, someone messaged me asking for the bible and I wrote back in Chinese asking if he can read Chinese. He couldn't read what I wrote, so I got confused why he wanted a bible he couldn't read. Well, it turned out he just wanted to give the bible to his roommate who was a student studying here from China as a gift. I thought that was so nice of him that I drove across town and delivered the bible to him that same day. Before that however, I messaged back and forth with him a bit and I asked him if he was very religious himself to which he responded that he was still searching. The conversation went from there and I explained my faith and then he asked me to think hypothetically if I were born into a muslim family, and read the Quran everyday instead of the Book of Mormon, wouldn't I believe in the "Islamic God" (his words)? I had already considered his question years before he asked it. I am convinced that the majority of young people nowadays get to some point where they question and evaluate the religion of their parents. No one wants to be a blind follower of any faith. As I thought his question over and thought about who I was as a person, I typed him response and I told him no. Here is what I wrote.
"I would say no.... I got to a point in my life where I had to really decide if I trusted my parents' religion and the church I was born into. The reason why I chose to stay is a result of my personal search for truth and how I tested and experimented what I was reading in the scriptures. If I were born in a different faith, I would have gone through the same process of questioning my parents and their traditions and I would have abandoned it because what I now know is that church I was born into is true and that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer."
