Riverside/Dows Lake Week 12
We found a Chinese college student this week and met with him for a lesson about part of the Plan of Salvation. He really listened and didn't interrupt like other people, and we set a time to meet again! That got me excited, so I practiced teaching the plan of salvation in Chinese to Elder Wu. The other people we are teaching are doing really well. We have someone we have met with 4 times now and is friend came for one of the lessons , so we are going to start meeting with his friend too! And then there is someone else who has come to church and activities a lot and it really becoming good friends with the members.
This week I studied the story of Teancum. Teancum was a chief captain of the Nephities. He and the men under his command were highly skilled warriors. Teancum slays the king of the Lamanites, Amalickah , by sneaking into their camp by night and casting a javelin into his heart. Teancum later does the same thing to slay Amalickah's brother, Ammoron, but this time the Lamanite servants chase down Teancum and slay him in turn. I wondered why Teancum was included in the Book of Mormon, or rather what was the purpose. I contrasted these two instances and found three differences and concluded on three lessons.
1) Teancum brought his servant with him the first time, but not the second time. We can not deal with our problems on our own, God gave us our families, our companions, and the Holy Ghost to rely on.
2) In the first instance, Teancum "stole privily into the tent of the king" while the second time, Teancum "goes forth" "in his anger". No matter how skilled or elite we are of a warrior or a disciple, anger will blind us and reduce our level of skill.
3) The first time Teacum pierces the heart, while the second time Teancum only pierces near the heart. We must pierce the heart of problems and issues in our lives least they wake up again and call for our destruction.

It was really nice to get the gift! I wore the pants and the tie! Thank you so much! (Speaking of the Christmas gifts that were brought to him by his cousin, who is a student in Ottawa).
Elder Wu is leaving for Montreal. I am staying, my new companion will be Elder Wai. He ran Cross Country so hopefully he will be game for running everyday even though it is cold.
