Mount Royal/Mandarin South- Week 5

Turns out things are locking down more again here. I do not know if this means things will change as far church or our missionary meetings. We have transfers again and Elder Zhou is leaving me. He is going to serve in a french branch - he has been studying French very hard and has been hoping to go French speaking, so I am happy for him. He spent almost a full year in the Mount Royal Mandarin branch so I think hes excited for a change. I am sad to see him go though, I feel like all the companions I would prefer to be with longer I only get one transfer with.

We are getting free pizza from Dominoes today👀

I saw you posted a violin video I made. I had made it for a talent show at zone conference and I didn't know it was going to get posted to Facebook but I don't have any complaints I guess. Recently, our zone has not had a ton of people wanting to make things to post on facebook. (I think they feel facebook will not lead to teaching opportunities). Anyways, so it meant we had an empty sign up sheet for the posts so I just recorded like four songs and I think they are posting them all😬 I guess I do not really get how I am suppised to go from facebook videos to teaching someone that saw the video (if that makes sense). They are saying we should be using Instagram and twitter too, so I downloaded twitter and made an account. What I have seen a difference in in the past months is that a lot of the teaching opportunities that come now are because people 'self referred' themselves - meaning they called a member friend and starting asking questions or they put in a request to meet with missionaries on the comeuntochrist.org website or they contacted missionaries outside of our mission and then they got referred to us. I think this really neat because before we obvisously went door to door but now people are taking their own effort to reach out to us.

Elder Rigby who I spent two weeks with in the MTC is going to be my new (I guess old) companion. He is pretty cool and has a good heart from what I remember so I am pretty excited 😊.

This week I did these readings all about the Sacrament.

Looking at the list you can likely pick out which one I liked most - Behold the Lamb of God. I think this talk just really gets people motivated about taking a look at improving their sacrament taking. For me, there are been several occasions (both on the mission and before) where someone has pulled me aside to tell me they appreciated how reverently or sincerely I spoke the sacrement prayer. One senior missionary asked me "did your bishop or priest quorum advisor teach you to say it that way?" The first or second times this happened stunned me and made me wonder if perhaps their compliments were actually an indication I was a little monotone when reading the words. As this continued to happen, I think the encouragement and compliments have made me to think more about how I am saying the prayer (no duh right, they're putting me under pressure). But I think it has helped me to think about the sacrament more.

Lots of love,

Elder Pinkney
